About RAFOA

It is my honour and privilege to pen a few lines on the launch of the upgraded and modernized RAFOA website.

On this Silver Jubilee year, it gives me great pleasure to witness the great strides taken by RAFOA, with a steady and significant improvement of the membership, finances, activities and services rendered to the Retired Officer community.

RAFOA was founded twenty five years ago in 2001 with the intention of giving retired Officers a collective identity and maintaining a robust, interactive and cooperative relationship with the Air Force, assuring that they remain active members of the larger Air Force family, while providing them with a variety of services and privileges by the Air Force, thus ensuring that they are given due recognition of their dedicated service to the Air Force and the motherland.

The Air Force is dedicated to improve the services provided to retired personnel, giving due cognizance to two factors; maintaining the interaction and cooperation between the serving and retired personnel, and providing specialized support for the senior retirees in their twilight years, as evidenced by the establishment of a veterans' care home at Katunayake.

I wish RAFOA all the best on this twenty fifth anniversary while gratefully acknowledging the contributions of my predecessors towards the growth and improvement of RAFOA, and pledge my unstinting support in all your future endeavours.

The Retired Air Force Officers Association (RAFOA) was formed in 2001 with the main objective of giving retired Air Force officers a collective identity and as a center to promote fellowship, social and welfare activities for its members and their spouses. On the 25th anniversary of the association, during the long journey from its formation, I can proudly say that the main purpose has been kept in focus right throughout with the role expected as a center promoting fellowship, social and welfare activities also fulfilled with great support and assistance of the SLAF.

The showpieces of these achievements are the RAFOA office at Guwanpura, holiday homes/transit facility at China Bay, Koggala, Nuwara Eliya and Weerawila, and the annual dinner dance. In terms of the future I must state that initial efforts to also have holiday homes in Kandy and Diyatalawa have been put in place and as things are these should also be realities sooner than later.

With this backdrop, it is with great pleasure that I announce the relaunch of our association’s webpage linked to the official SLAF website, basically a renewed digital home designed to serve you better. Over the past months, we have listened carefully to your feedback and worked with the SLAF IT team under the direction of respective AFHQ officials to create a webpage that is more accessible and easier to navigate in terms of the services offered to the membership.

This relaunch is more than a visual update; it is a commitment to stronger engagement, transparency, and two-way communication with all our stakeholders. On behalf of the Association, I extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Commander of the Air Force, Director General Electronics and Computer Engineering for the arrangements made for this endeavor to take place, and the SLAF IT team whose ideas and dedication have made this relaunch possible.
