SEVA VANITHA UNIT HOSTS “HERSHIELD” LEGAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON CYBER SAFETY AND AI RISKS
The SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit successfully conducted the second session of the ‘HerShield’ Legal Awareness Programme yesterday (08 July 2026) at the Eagles Lakeside Banquets & Convention Hall, Attidiya, with the participation of over 350 Officers, Airmen and Airwomen representing various SLAF establishments.
The programme was organized with the objective of enhancing legal awareness among SLAF personnel while addressing emerging challenges associated with cyber violence, online exploitation and the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
The first session was conducted by Mr. Hans Billimoria, Gender, Cyber Safety and Rights Advocate, who delivered an informative presentation on the current manifestations of cyber violence and exploitation, including AI-related risks. The session highlighted emerging digital threats such as cyber harassment, online exploitation, cyberbullying, identity misuse and deepfake technology, while providing participants with practical guidance on safe online practices and methods of protecting themselves in the digital environment.
The second session was conducted by Mr. Nuwan Jayawardena, Attorney-at-Law, who presented an insightful analysis of Section 345 of the Penal Code of Sri Lanka. His presentation focused on the legal framework, relevant offences, reporting mechanisms, legal remedies available to victims and the responsibilities of individuals in preventing and responding to incidents that may arise both within professional and personal settings.
The programme was moderated by Mr. Vishwa Vidanagamage, Attorney-at-Law, who facilitated an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session, enabling participants to engage directly with the resource persons and gain a deeper understanding of the topics discussed.
Conducted under the guidance of the Chairperson SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe, the ‘HerShield’ Programme is one of several sustainable initiatives implemented by the Seva Vanitha Unit, alongside SkillWings, Professional Mastery and Clean Today, Green Tomorrow. These initiatives are designed to promote personal development, professional excellence, safety, social responsibility and the overall well-being of SLAF personnel.
