Retired Air Force
Officers Association

Serving those who served the skies

  • In the Beginning
At inception, the RCyAF owned no aircraft. Early recruits had to make do with PT and Drill routines until the first four Chipmunks arrived. With the arrival of the Chipmunks, aircraft engineering activities could begin. Under the guidance of RAF engineers, the aircraft were first flown in February 1951.
  • The First Jets Arrive
The RCyAF pilots quickly adapted to their latest acquisition and first-ever jet aircraft.
  • Prowess of Our Pilots
Squadron Leader S.V. Mahendra Situnayake became the second Asian pilot to win the Groves Memorial Prize for Flying and Airmanship. Squadron Leader J.E.M. Nihal Ratnayake became the first Asian pilot to win the Hicks Memorial Prize for Aerobatics.
Welcome

Retired Air Force Officers Association (RAFOA)

The Retired Air Force Officers Association (RAFOA) was established under the patronage of the Commander of the Air Force to provide a collective identity to retired Air Force officers and to foster continued fellowship between RAFOA members and serving officers.

RAFOA promotes social activities for retired officers and their spouses, and provides a centre with club facilities for its members.

All officers who have served in the Royal Ceylon Air Force, Sri Lanka Air Force, Royal Ceylon Air Force Volunteer Force, Sri Lanka Air Force Volunteer Force, and those listed as "Retired Officers" in the current Sri Lanka Air Force List, are eligible to be members.
