SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE ESTABLISHES HERBAL GARDEN FOR CONSERVATION EFFORTS

As part of World Environment Day celebrations, a Herbal Garden Establishment Programme was held at the Pollinator Garden, Goluwapokuna Estate, SLAF Base Katunayake, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable green initiatives.

The programme was jointly organized by the SLAF Agriculture Unit, Katunayake and Link Natural Products (Pvt) Ltd. The initiative aimed to promote biodiversity, encourage the sustainable cultivation and use of medicinal and herbal plants and strengthen ongoing environmental conservation efforts.

During the event, a range of valuable herbal species was planted to establish a dedicated herbal garden within the Pollinator Garden premises. The newly created green space is expected to serve as a hub for environmental education, conservation activities and future sustainability programmes. 

The event was attended by the Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal Amitha Jayamaha, together with senior officers and other ranks of the base.
