ABOUT THE DOG HANDLER

Description 

A dog handler in the K-9 wing is responsible for training, handling, and deploying military working dogs for operational, security, and detection duties. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Train and maintain control of assigned military working Dogs.
  • Conduct daily obedience, and detection training.
  • Deploy Dogs for Base security and patrol duties.
  • Explosive and narcotics detection.
  • Search and rescue operations.
  • Ensure proper feeding, grooming, and healthcare of the Dogs.
  • Monitor the dog’s physical and mental condition.
  • Assist in security operations during VIP visits, events, and high-alert situations.
  • Maintain records of training, health, and operational performance.
  • Support other SLAF units when K-9 assistance is required.

Nationality Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka
Age Not less than 18 years and not more than 22 years as at 01 August 2026.

Weight / BMI Male: 17 < BMI < 26
Chest (Male) 32 Inches
Color Vision CP2
Visual Acuity 6/6 each eye (without spectacles and lenses)
GCE O/L REQUIREMENTS
Passes in 06 subjects at the GCE (O/L) Examination in not more than two sittings including a Simple (S) pass in Sinhala / Tamil language
or
Pearson Edexcel International General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exam or Cambridge International Ordinary Level exams: Passes in 06 subjects in not more than two sittings.
